Industrial output of China's large firms grows 14.9% in November

BEIJING, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- The output of China's large industrial enterprises grew 14.9 percent from a year earlier to 793.6 billion yuan in November, a slight rise from October's 14.7 percent but still much lower than the ten-year record high of 19.5 percent in June.

The figures released Wednesday by the National Bureau of Statistics showed industrial production, a major engine of China's economic growth, is cooling off steadily.

The November industrial output of textile sector surged 11.9 percent from a year earlier while transport equipment manufacturing climbed 23.2 percent.

Communications, computer and other electronic equipment manufacturing climbed 15.2 percent from a year earlier. Electricity and heating power sector went up by 13.1 percent year-on-year.

China produced 190 million tons of raw coal in November as compared with October's 187 million tons, up 9.1 percent year-on-year.

The November crude oil output stood at 15.09 million tons, a slight drop from October's 15.5 million but a rise of 3 percent from a year earlier.

The November steel output surged 23.9 percent year-on-year to 41.75 million tons, up slightly from October's 41.59 million tons.

About 97.72 percent of their production was sold in November, up 0.34 of a percentage point over the same period last year. Their exports generated a total value of 550.6 billion yuan, up 20.6 percent.

In a separate report on Tuesday, the administration said China's retail sales surged 14.1 percent in November from a year earlier to 682.2 billion yuan.

Consumer prices, mainly stimulated by the higher prices for food, rose by 1.9 percent in November from a year earlier.

Large industrial enterprises, non-state-owned ones with a sales revenue higher than five million yuan, generated a total output of 7.79 trillion yuan from through November, up 16.8 percent year-on-year.
