The news from CNNIC (China Internet Network Information Centre) yesterday reported that the interruption of the submarine optical cables caused by earthquakes greatly affected international internet domain name system, and within China's boundaries there were almost 10 thousand dot com domain names lost due to the impossibility of renewing their subscriptions.

According to the numbers provided by WebHosting, an American data investigation company, China has become a disaster area for fee-renewed system malfunction. The lost of dot com or dot cn domain names as the result of late payments is regulated in contracts that domain server agents will be exempt from responsibility. However, because the earthquakes belong to unforeseen factors, “whether the registry administrative institutions will consider compensating the enterprises or individuals who lost their domain names or not is still in discussion, however, there was very few cases before about successfully getting back domain names”, said industry insiders.
