Coach accident kills 3, injures 35 in south China

NANNING, Jan. 24 -- Three people have been confirmed dead and 35 others are injured after a coach overturned Tuesday in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, according to the local government.

The accident happened at around 0:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Mashan county, about 120 kilometers from Nanning, the regional capital. Aman and a woman were killed outright, and another seriously-injured woman died in hospital.

Some of the 35 injured are in critical condition and are being treated in hospitals in Mashan and Nanning, according to the county's deputy director of health, surnamed Yang.

The coach, with 38 people onboard, was on its way from Shenzhen, in southern Guangdong province, to Nanchong, in southwestern Sichuan province. Most of the victims are migrant workers and their families who were returning home for Spring Festival.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
