Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced on January 25, 2007 that it has reached a strategic partnership with TCL Computer, the fourth largest PC provider in China, in the sector of commercial notebooks and desktops based on high-performing, energy-efficient AMD64 processors.

AMD Athlon(TM) 64 X2 dual-core processor-based desktop systems from TCL Computer are immediately available, and AMD64-powered notebooks are expected to launch in April 2007. This news marks an important milestone for China customers, who now have the opportunity to choose AMD processor-based solutions from the region's top seven computer manufacturers.

Until recently, Shenzhen-based TCL Computer has been a stalwart partner of Intel and has won, together with Haier Computer, significant support from the world's leading CPU maker. Mr. Yang Weiqiang, vice president of TCL Corp and general manager of TCL Computer, said, "Our cooperation with AMD is the result of our commitment to responding to market needs. As a leading global provider of innovative processing solutions, AMD provides our customers diversified choices as well as state-of-the-art open platforms."

The spokesperson of Intel Greater China said that Intel respects and understands the cooperation like that between TCL and AMD. According to industry analysts, it is an expanding trend that more and more PC manufacturers will use AMD processors. TCL is the seventh computer maker in the Greater China region that has established a strategic partnership with AMD. Of China's top seven PC manufacturers, only Haier and Great Wall are still remaining to be Intel's loyal partner.

Founded in 1998 in Shenzhen, southern China, TCL Computer Tech. Co. Ltd. designs, manufactures and markets mobile and desktop personal computers, as well as innovative digital products. After eight years of fast and steady growth, TCL Computer has become one of the leading players in China's IT market. It is part of the core business lines of TCL Corporation, which is one of the biggest consumer electronics groups in China.
