Road collapse leaves seven dead, one injured in SW China

GUIYANG, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- A road collapse has left seven people dead and another seriously injured in southwest China's Guizhou Province Saturday afternoon, local authorities said.

Eight villagers of Shunhe Village, Pingle Township of Suiyang County were standing on a road they just built when it collapsed at about 3:35 p.m. on Saturday, said a spokesman with the Guizhou Provincial Administration of Work Safety.

The eight villagers were buried under the earth. Six died on the spot due to suffocation and serious injuries, the spokesman said.

The other two villagers, also seriously injured, were rushed to a local hospital. One of them died in the hospital, he said.

The cause of the accident is under further investigation.
