Year by year western festivals such as Christmas and Valentine's Day are becoming increasingly popular in China. Taobao.com reported yesterday that in the previous month before Valentine's Day (January 24 to February 24), Chinese consumers have purchased more than RMB 100 million (12.9 million USD) of goods daily through the network platform.  During the peak period of Valentine's Week (February 4 to 10) in excess of RMB 110 million (14.2 million USD) was spent per day, an increase of nearly 200% compared with the same period last year.

According to taobao.com, 3000 bouquets of roses have been ordered from the internet last week. If there are ten roses in each bouquet, more than two hundred thousand roses have been sold via the net. Women's bags, shoes, hats, and other overseas goods have also been firm favourites among consumers and an approximate 30,000 pieces have been sold. Goods from abroad including gems, jewelry and fashion accessories have sold an estimated 70,000 pieces. Overseas purchases of products such as perfume, cosmetics and skin caring products have reached nearly 60,000 pieces.
