A precious collection from the Galerie Klimantiris from Canada is on display at the 3818 Cool Gallery in Dashanzi. A total of 60 oil paintings by nine artists, including Jacques Hebert, Gilbert Marosi, Albric Soly and Roberto Rotondo, present modern artistic characteristics and a profile of Canadian contemporary art.

Founded in 1978, Galerie Klimantiris has become an institution rather than just a gallery. Its owners, Chris and Vivian Klimantiris, use their taste, insight and devotion to create an artistic center for national masters, as well as young Canadian and foreign painters and sculptors.

The latest exhibition selects the representative works of the influential contemporary artists, whose works are based on their real life experiences and present diverse styles. A sense of unique creativity and pluralistic exploration can all be gleaned from the exhibits.

Albric Soly surpasses the boundaries of art and arrives into a world of collage and mixed media where surrealism meets abstract, and classicism marries avant-garde. Kevin Jenne's inspiration comes from the theme of architecture, using a comparison of color to add vitality to the scene. Roberto Rotondo boldly employs dark hint of oils and wax to express landscapes, streets and images of women. Jacques Hebert adapts glass in his art, starting with painting on canvas, followed by the sculptural manipulation of glass elements, and ending with a combination of both techniques.

Well-known impressionist artist Gilber Marosi's works have explosive features. Using a palette knife, he can freely control the thickness of the pigment to create a vigorous effect of light and shade. Born in 1937 in Paris, Marosi is endowed with artistic talent. He saw the world differently from other children. Sneaking out at night, he took pleasure in watching the colors dance across the orchard by moonlight. Marosi uses his early childhood experience to transform the mundane into spectacular, bold imagery. His wild paintings are explosive, filled with adventures in style and color.

Gabriel Bonmati's works catch visitors' attention with bright tones, fluent brushstrokes, aesthetic images and an exaggerated composition. Elegant women, which are the theme, are painted with elongated faces and meticulous facial features. Their clothes are printed with rich colorful flowers and decorations. The high-degree saturation of the pigments and the combined employment hints at a festive mood. The skin of the women, pale and subdued, creates a powerful contrast with the background. It makes the image jump out from the background and highlights the whole frame. Their expressions transmit a sense of peace.
