Hutong (the Chinese word for alleys in Beijing) are considered to be the places where typical Beijing culture and lifestyle are preserved; however, some of the best Western-style restaurants also choose to operate in the depths of Hutong.

Saffron is one of the most famous western-style restaurants in Hutong. Two couples founded Saffron after having completed their study abroad, as all of them love cooking. The husbands are the chefs, and the wives are waitresses. Their fluent English and delicate cuisine make all the foreigners forget the difficulties in finding the Saffron. Saffron is also the favorite of local white-collars, for they like the home-like atmosphere here.

A pizza restaurant tucked away in Houhai is also said to be one of the best in Beijing. Unlike many other western-style restaurants, its decoration is totally Chinese, yet the dishes they serve are absolutely Italian.

Parc Guell, a well-known Spanish restaurant, is located in the Hutong of Dong Si Si Tiao. Parc Guell is the first choice for everyone who wants to experience Mediterranean lifestyle, as that's where the igredients of the dishes come from. The name of the restaurant is derived from the masterpiece of Antoni Gaudi, the great Spanish architect.

Western-style restaurants in Hutong have become a vital part of modern Beijing life and culture, and many tourists really enjoy Hongtong "restaurant exploration" here.
