A campaign to implant microchips in all pet dogs has started in Beijing.
The Beijing News reports the Xicheng district government has invested 1.18 million yuan in this project.
Xicheng will pilot the program. Ten police stations will plant microchips in pet dogs free of charge during the annual registered-dog survey.
It is simple, painless and quick to plant microchips in animals. Every chip has a unique ID number and carries detailed information about the dog, including its name, owner, annual survey status and rabies vaccination information. The chips can be easily read with a microchip scanner.
All the information will be entered in a national database.
Other districts will launch microchip campaigns in July.
