Five days after the earthquake in China, which devastated large swathes of Sichuan province, President Hu Jintao says rescuers and emergency teams will not give up hope of finding more survivors alive.
The official death toll is put at more than 22,000, but is expected to exceed 50,000 and efforts are now squarely focused on getting help to those who survived the earthquake.
In some of the worst hit areas people now have tents, fresh water and something to eat, but in more accessible parts of the province the authorities are still struggling to get help to the survivors.
Five million people have been left homeless by the quake, which is a quarter of the population in the area.
There is a growing risk of disease in the summer heat. People are being told to wear face masks and disinfectant teams are out in force.
Meanwhile, China has warned that a lake damaged by the quake may be about to burst its banks.
