Chinese Go player Gu Li (L) competes with South Korean Lee Chang-ho in the final
of the 21st Fujitsu Cup World Go Championships in Tokyo, Japan, on July 7, 2008.

China's leading Go player Gu Li beat strong rival Lee Chang-ho of South Korea on Monday to win the 21st Fujitsu Cup World Go Championships in Tokyo.

Gu Li's win ended the ten-year reign of Korean players in the Fujitsu Cup, according to Xinhua news agency.

Nine-dan ranked Gu was in obvious better condition than Lee, also 9-dan, during Monday's final, Xinhua says. Facing the two-time Fujitsu Cup champion, 26-year-old Gu managed to control the pace and left little chance for Lee.

Gu's latest win is his third world title, which also makes him the second Chinese winner of the Fujitsu Cup, after Ma Xiaochun in 1995's event.

China's Chang Hao beat fellow player Liu Xing to become the second runner-up of this year's competition.
