Polls have opened in Hong Kong for elections which are expected to benefit pro-China parties.

More than three million people will be voting for representatives to the territory's Legislative Council.

Four years ago Hong Kong democrats secured a majority of the popular vote in a limited franchise that gave them just 25 of the 30 seats available to them on the Legislative Council, with 30 others chosen by representatives of different interest groups.

This time around, pro-government parties are expected to do better, even though the administration of chief executive Donald Tsang is deeply unpopular after what his critics describe as a string of recent blunders.
